First Diagesis example with some non-diagegtic background music:
Last samurai:

Diagesis in this example is with more or
less the whole video I think up until two minuets in. With the samurais running
in to the left you can only see them and not if they really are running towards
the opposition but it is framed in a way that you would just assume that they
were, when the footage switches onto the other army (the samurais opposition)
the same happens hear. The reason i chose the part at thirty seconds was
because the scene with the guns shooting into the right but nothing more can be
screen was a good example of Diagesis because at the time they are shooting the
guns the viewer is unable to see what the guns are shooting at but you make the
connection pretty easily and assume they are firing at the samurais.
The music in the background is non
Diagesis, i think it is a brass orchestra playing, but only the audience can
hear this music and it's sole purpose is for creating mood within the film, it
is a fight scene in the film and so the director was obviously wanting to create
a dramatic feeling with the audience when watching this scene.
Other Diagesis example:
Attack on titan:
http://youtu.be/domg3Yo8Pmk?t=10s
The use of Diagesis in this film is with
the smashing of glass and the almost roaring sound, After that a character
commits suicide. I think it tries to imply even more what the terrifying things
outside are and how bad they really are. Their is no footage of what's outside
after the point i chose to show in the Youtube video but you can still assume
their is something outside that is a threat to them and this is why they are
hiding. The smashing glass and growling show more whatever is outside is
wanting to come in.
